Job Description:

This role is a replacement for one of the Java-focused application developers at Luminary.

The role is to undertake development, support and maintenance of custom applications for specific customer needs, primarily on a Java and RDBMS platform, but will need to be flexible to cover other platforms (such as MS and .Net development).

These tasks will largely be customer facing, so excellent communication skills are essential, and will require the successful candidate to undertake requirements analysis, software design, implementation and testing of programs and software systems mainly on RDBMS platforms utilizing Java. The candidate may need to spend significant proportions of particular projects on a customer’s site, which will typically be within commuting distance of Leeds. Less frequently, visits to customers further away will also be needed, for periods of anything between a few days and a few months.

At least three years’ experience of development in a commercial environment is required, ideally within a software-house with a strong focus on deadline-driven development. Applicants must be well-rounded individuals with attention to detail, a focus on quality and process, good communication skills, the ability to work well in teams and able to represent the company with customers.
Primary Responsibilities:
To undertake software development, support and maintenance as described above, including business requirements analysis, creation of design specifications and other documentation, and software testing. Primary technical skills will be Java on a RDBMS platform, but MS .Net skills would be an advantage.


Job Qualifications:

IT related degree qualification, or equivalent experience. Experience of commercial software development using Java JSE and JEE; XML; EJB and the Spring Framework at enterprise level; service oriented architectures; web services and object-related mapping technologies including JPA and Hibernate.

Ideally the applicant will also have experience of Agile methods including Test Driven Development; RDBMS design and implementation. Of particular interest would be experience of designing and building Business Intelligence applications – using tools such as OLAP, ETL, Integration and Reporting Services, (esp. open source options including Talend, Pentaho and Jaspersoft) but other enterprise BI technologies would also be considered.
